Welcome to Treesmill Farm

Treesmill Farm dates back to the 15th Century. The mill was once run by monks from the local priory and the Saints Way runs past the gate. You may still see an old monk or Knight wandering around the farm late at night!

The Farm is featured heavily in the novel "The House on the Strand" by Daphne Du Maurier. The title is the English translation of the local village name Tywardreath and Treesmill actually means Mill on the strand (beach). Trees is a corruption of Dreath, to Treath and eventually Trease. Its unusual in that it contains an English word “Mill” and a Cornish word “Trees” in Cornish it might be more properly called “Melyndreath

The novel is inspired by the changes that have happened over the last few hundred years. Ships once sailed up the creek past what is now Par station and duck pond to the Mill but the local bay (Par beach) silted up due to mining and the creek has become a tiny stream. Evidence of this can be seen in Par. The Spar shop is on the “East-Cliff” Rd and the “cliffs” can be seen behind. On the other West Cliff side there is a plaque near the Par inn on the bakery commemorating the site of a ship wreck!

There are beaches only a few minutes drive away. Par, Polkerris (ideal for kids) and Spit, to name a few. Cornwall has long been a place of interest and a popular destination for holidaymakers. We are surrounded by beautiful beaches, cliff walks, golf courses, spectacular scenery as well as various tourist attractions so there is plenty

to see and do here for everyone.
